Description

Rock castle Sloup
[: pillar]

The castle was built probably at the end of the 13th century on a lonely inaccessible rock massive. The castle was almost impregnable because on one side it was protected by a row of ponds along the rock massive. However, the castle was conquered in the 15th century and left desolate. From the medieval structures remain only those parts carved into the rock. In 1680 the castle was inhabited by hermits who carried out some adaptations. The mysterious labyrinth of passages and rooms carved into the rock present the greatest attraction of this place.

Robert.. When it comes to amazing locations and having the eye, expertise and skill to capture them you are truly only surpassed by me ! lol

Great image, one question, you used a two filters the Grad gray was used on the sky and I assume you darkened the water in the forground to balance the top and bottom out? A polarizer on its own would not have done that.

A problem I have had using grads is if items in the picture stick up into the Grad area... as in the trees on top of the main subject, What I wanted to ask is why you use a grad at all instead of controlling the sky in photoshop?

Amazing detail, Well done and I love when you post work...

10+

I guess you won't believe me, but I've seen 'Laputa - Castle in the Sky' just today. Yeah, it's a weird coincidence...
those clouds look almost like they were vectorized
great as usual

EDIT: yep, Studio Ghibli's stuff is really nice, usually

Fastastic work! Remsan might say the strong horizontal cuts the composition in half, but it doesn't bother me :p

Beautiful as usual, Robert. I think though it's just a bit too dark.

Thank you for visit and for comments!

Almost-Human: the polarizer was set in the angle to block out the reflection from the water surface while sky remained unchanged.
That was the reason why the grad filter was so necessary for exposure correction. Without usage of it the sky would be horribly overburned. With dark water underneath.

Yes, trees on the top of the rock are darker, but for me it isn't problem at all. Darker top and the bottom of the photo helped to focus interrest directly to the objects underneath the rock.

Byonder: as I said many times before, composition rules aren't a dogma. Placing horizon to one third doesn't have much sence here, unless there would be some object in the foreground. Like grass, tree or drowned knight in the pond :)

BigD2000: this is the sequel. The first one is still somewhere in my portfolio. Faux-pas eh ? :p

question, why two gray filters?
and watch that unsharp mask, there's a slight glow around the top of the dominating rock

One gray filter Slapo.. in the sky..
I get what you are saying, I I see its a stiched multi shot.. so two exposures at different values for the foreground and the sky was not an option..
The darkness at the top tree line reminds me of vignetting. So the only thing that made the bottom area dark was the polariser? ?
I have a box of those filters.... in fact I think I have most of the Cokin A catalogue ! anyone fance a rainbow filter??? lol Good work.... hence 10+

Very nice! I only have one critic and that is that the reflection differs a bit from the sky but who cares if a photo looks this good...
